server help agent/sexxy?

I wanted some help in setting up server in UT2003.

I opened ports 7777-7778, 80 for webadmin and 28902
Dont know what 28902 is for really...

Server got setup but it didnt show in the server list.
Agent told me to advertise server. That helpd...It showed in the list but the Ping column showed: N/A
And I couldn't connect from that list... Could only connect from LAN list.

Kitty connected to it once using my IP... but that was when I didnt advertise it...

It works if I dont advertise it... When I advertised server she couldnt connect.. Not even from the IP

Rapier told me to ask sexxxy or agent...


What ports I should open?
Do I need to edit any .ini file?
Or download anything?

Are you behind a router? they usually annoy you with stuff like that, if, go to ur ut2003 ini and check for the beacon settings.

I would try to turn of firewall (temp), to check if it really is that blocking it, if it works with firewall turned off then check ur ports.

thats the only two i can think of top off my head, if those dont work i can try thinking of something els.

Well my firewall is never on.
And I checked the ports too.
Don't know what are the beacon setting you are talking about though.

Barbie told me to open port 28902 too. She said that it will show in the list if you open this port. That didn't help.
I can post the server log file which is created when the server is launched if you want to see it.
Or upload the UT2003.ini is you want to see it.

without port 80 open u cant browse.. but router is a problem when poeple try to find their way to you computer.

I even tried getting the server key.

Instead of using the key for the server, it changed the CD key of the game and the game stopped working. I had to restore the registry to get it to work again.


lol... I even tried to setup a Demo server but it didn't start. The server engine showed some textures missing and then closed automatically. :-|


Maybe my computer is fucked up. I used to play CS 1.6 and I never got the full server list. It showed only about 700 servers on my computer. But on my friends computer it showed 25,000 servers!! I had to connect using the server's IP's.


So should I send the UT2003.ini so you can check it out?

as for cs servers, it could have been ur server filter?

now, if u have a wireless router then i wouldnt bother to get a server running, it is annoying, and then slow when u finally have.

No I don't have a wireless router.

MatchID=0 its the most often by default i guess

Bugger...I made a post and somehow it didn't work...
Don't wanna do it all again, so I'll do the short version:

That's what I use and the server runs fine.

- ServerBehindNAT need to be true if you're useing a router.
- If you uplink to GameSpy you need to open 7787 and 7788 too
- Try to open 28900 too


I said my server runs fine, but:

- For me it shows as N/A in MasterServer-list
- I can't connect to it from there
- Port-Tests say my ports are closed
- Turning off firewall DOESN'T help

- Other players can connect to it perfectly, no lag a.s.o.
- Ports are obviously opened
- Players can see ServerInformation and not only N/A
- I can connect to it via LAN-List

Conclusion: A router is dumb sh*t xD

Kidding.
But well, I can only think about 2 reasons why it's like this
#1 it's really because of the router
#2 it's because I'm useing the same PC for hosting and joining
(should put my 2nd PC together and try it out to be sure)


PS:
You DON'T (!!!) need a CD-Key.
Doing that was a huge waste of time and as it sounds also stressy
You only need a CD-Key for a Retail-Server, a Demo-Server doesn't need it.

uplink is set to true default.

beacon is the advertising problem, or his router...as i said give up if u behind router.

Why give up? I'm behind a router too and it's working fine.

wireless routers have their ip, and computers ip is not the router's ip, if he connected to your server he connects to router, which sometimes doesn't push the call back to the computer, to allow it to send and receive data.

Rapiers server is behind a router, but when he had a the router D-link(ed) he had the same problem, so if u have a wireless router i say give up, or try to make the router sent data to computer, that wants you to learn your computer's name and set router if it gets call on UT ports (7777 etc.) to sent them back to computer (need computer name). The issues are confusing and annoying, but point is, the server is running in perfect health.
So I wouldn't give up.

So, Homer is behind a router, which is not a wireless router.
Means, he's in the same situation as I am.
I can host a server and it runs perfectly.

He should check the .ini settings, check if the required ports are open and need someone to test it together with him (maybe more than one time xD).

If your connection is not good (Rapier's is, 15Mbps) its pointless isn't it? i mean people cant really play on it.

yes one way routers don't have a problem since they forward every call, on all open ports, the more than one way routers, have problems not knowing which computer wants to 'answer' the call. I say give up to him, since he doesn't know, asking other can get you so far, i can give you my web-meeting address where i can do remote assistance and try fix it, but i wont try to guess like this. (as for the .ini fix, i gave you the website where the whole *.ini is line by line explained).

Its only 20$ a month for a 10slots server anyway...

Yea, I've seen the .ini link, I don't need that anyway, since I know all the lines through experience (messing with them for more than 10 years ).
But that's not the point.
I can do that too, google something, link it and say "here, do this".

He doesn't need all lines and I know which ones he need, so that's why I posted them, quicker help and I put effort in it.

I know I'm smart (sorry if that sounds like I'm too high of myself), but I have only seen very few tutorials and explanations for the average user.
If you give someone an explanation you understand, doesn't mean he understands it too.

Oh and btw, I've got a 16Mbps connection (it's actually 17.2, but I pay my provider for a 16 one )
And I saw you on my server and you said it's too laggy. You've had a 200 ping.
Sure you lag with that, but you shouldn't have package lost, only a 0.2s delay.
No one else has package lost.
Anarki was like that too yesterday, joined and complained about his super high ping (700 and higher) and that he liked the other server more.
I told him that it's probably his side, since Homer was here with 400 again.
Guess what, today he was on my server with 400 ping.
Maybe it was someone else, but it was MR.Sexxxxy, so eitherway it was you, or a name-faker

I forgot what connection Homer has, but I've been on his server by IP-connection, since the masterserver-listing didn't work at that time.
Sure, my ping was 400, but I was playing in India. I had delay but no package lost.
So I think it should be possible for him.

And yea, 20$ aren't much (I paid for my 12 slot 21€, so 29$, still not much).
Not much, for us.
Other countries or other people might not have the money to spend it so lightly.
(or maybe parents forbid it xD)

He doesn't want a 24/7 server anyway, only a server where he can play with people now and then, so they have a 400 ping and he got the 50 and below ping

So it doesn't really matter if you can really play on there (and like I said, it already supports at least 2 players w/o package lost)

Actually $20 is not that much,but believe me my parents wouldn't really agree if they knew it was for some game server.

And yes,I did get 400 ping soon afterwards..but I got disconnected 20 mins later,and then I couldn't connect to either gen0 or the backup server,only to MR,DTK,Poetz usw.
It showed as N/A , and connecting to it was practically useless.
Homer anyway isn't planning to charter a server or anything,he practically wants that <50 ping,as Shini said,nevermind that I get 60 on his too.

And finally I would like to say,that Homer has a 256 kbps connection,but I can connect to his server,and there is no lag.Also,ping is generally not dependant on speed, until and unless you have 16mbps[17.2 whatever ] .. because homer and me have the same ping,and I have a 2mbps connection
[ i.e. he downloads at 26 kbps or something and me at 210 ]

I bet you've been getting high ping [for us that's like...700] at some point of time on the servers,and I can think of nothing else other than the traffic being high.It's a weird phenomenon at different intervals,when I get 340 on Shini's server,then it bumps to 500,and finally to 710 ping [at this point I believe you get disconnected pretty often,atleast I got disconnected from <<Dtk iBR>> 8-9 times,ask Mrs. Gaylord

he will be playing by himself or only with anarki then, still pointless:D and depending on the counties ip some times the master could have it blocked from running a server or, just not advertise it because its run from a country like India? (A lot of spamming and hacking and bot-net are run there). It lets you run a server but doesn't advertise it?
